In 2021, Matsya 6000, an indigenously developed manned submersible completed its preliminary design and the realization of the vehicle was started with various organizations including ISRO, IITM, and DRDO to support the development. 

In order to conduct extensive ocean studies, Matsya 6000 will transport three people in a manned submersible to a depth of 6000 metres

As per the reports, The Ministry of Earth and Science will find it simpler to investigate the deep ocean in search of commodities like gas hydrates, polymetallic manganese nodules, and hydrothermal sulphides. and cobalt crusts, which could be between 1000 and 5500 metres below the earth’s surface.

According to a media report, The 500 metre rated shallow water variant of the manned submersible is anticipated to go through sea trials in the last quarter of 2022. Additionally, by the second quarter of 2024, the deep water manned submersible, the MATSYA 6000, will be prepared for trials.
