Recently, many ministers of the central government unveiled the first look of BharOS. Union Minister for Electronics and Telecommunication, Union Telecom Minister, and Union Education Minister were present at the event.

What is BharOS?

In simple words, BharOS is India’s own Android. Yes, it is very similar to its rival i.e Android. BharOS is made in India and it is being created by JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops). JandKops is a non-profit organization which is situated at IIT Madras.

As mentioned earlier, BharOS is similar to Android. The BharOS Platform is based on Android itself. Since it is based on stock Android, its User Interface and many features will be similar to Android. It is believed to be more secure, reliable, and powerful.

Features of BharOS

A powerful and safe AOSP (Android Open Source Project) operating system is called BharOS. On their Smartphone with BharOS installed, users would be able to side-load many of the apps of their choice. There are also workarounds for some problems, such as using Gmail on the web rather than the app (which is only accessible when connected to Google Play services).

With features like kernel patch protection, encrypted file storage, and sandboxing, BharOS is made to be dependable and safe. Additionally, it offers a secure update system, a secure boot process, and a secure boot loader. It has a graphical user interface and is made to be easy to use. Numerous pre-installed programs, such as web browsers and multimedia players, are included.

Difference between Android, BharOS, and Apple’s iOS

Though Android and BharOS are based on the same platform there are several differences between them. While Apple’s iOS is a completely different operating system and BharOS does not share any similarity with it. Let’s have a look into some differences between Android and BharOS

The main difference between BharOS and Android is that BharOS does not come with pre-installed Google apps and Google Services. A user of BharOS can download any app which is available on the internet. Android is managed by its parent company Google, while On the other hand, BharOS is partially funded by The Government of India under the Make in India scheme.

BharOS has a specific feature of NDA (No Default Apps) which means the user has can choose which app he/she wants to install on his/her phone. The main idea behind this is to give users full control over their privacy. Users can install and permit to access their data to apps of their choice.

The actual release date and supported cell phones for BharOS are currently unknown, according to the creators.
